Small Groups - Sunday, February 24

We had a great day with rbcstudents yesterday.  We wrapped up our final lesson of the series called "Get a Clue."  This whole series, we have been talking about people in the Bible who had no idea what God was doing in their midst, and needed to "get a clue" as to what God was up to.

Yesterday, we looked at the story if Jonah.  God clearly asked him to go to Nineveh, but Jonah disobeyed.  He went the other direction.  We all know the story, how Jonah ends up in a fish, and eventually make his way to Nineveh.  Jonah was angry that God showed mercy to the Ninevites...he did not understand what God was doing.  He needed to get a clue.  Bottom line, we learned that we need to seek God's desires instead of our own.  When we seek our own desires, we miss the point of what God is trying to do.

Also, here are a few important announcements for the week....

Small Groups: Sunday, February 17th

Hello rbcparents! We hope all of you had a wonderful Sunday here at Ridgecrest.  Yesterday, with your students, we spent time reading through 2 Kings, chapter 2.  We read through the story of the Prophet, Elisha... and what happened when the people of Bethel criticized him and made fun of him.  The city of Bethel had already begun to let their fear of the Lord slip.  When these young men in Bethel were showing God contempt by making fun of His prophet, He used it as an opportunity to speak to the entire city of Bethel.  God sent to bears to maul 42 of the young men who were making fun of Elisha.  God does not take contempt lightly, and as followers of Christ we need to have healthy fear of the Lord.  He can do whatever He wants, but He has given us grace.  We hope that you and your students remember this story throughout the week and spend time reflecting on it.  Have a wonderful week rbcparents!

Small Groups: Feb. 10th

Yesterday was such a beautiful day! How many of you enjoyed the beautiful weather as much as we did? We also got to enjoy spending time studying God's Word with all of your wonderful students... specifically Numbers 22.  We read about the story of Balaam and how the Lord worked in weird ways to communicate with him.  Sometimes God does that... He works in mysterious ways to tell us something or guide us in a certain direction.  In this story we see God use Balaam's donkey to communicate with him.  God sent an angel to kill Balaam to stop him from going down a reckless path.  Balaam could not see the angel, but the donkey could... after the donkey had done everything he could to save Balaam's life, the Lord opened the donkey's mouth and allowed him to speak to Balaam.  A donkey speaking?? Crazy, right? It worked, though.  Balaam realized he was heading down a sinful and reckless path.  After the donkey spoke, God opened Balaam's eyes and allowed him to see the angel as well.  He knelt down and buried his head in his hands realizing what he was doing.
Maybe in your case what you're doing isn't "wrong"... maybe it's just something God does not have in His will for your life...  With that said, we encourage you and your students to be open to strange communication from God.  Have a great week rbcparents!

Small Groups: Sunday, February 3rd

Hey parents of rbcstudents! We so enjoyed spending our SuperBowl Sunday with all of your students yesterday!  To recap the morning, we got the opportunity to dig into Exodus 32 with your students.  We talked about how we often tend to lose patience and instead of waiting for the answer, we try to figure things out on our own.  We gave an example about how we do this with new and exciting gadgets.  Maybe you got an iPhone for Christmas... did you pull the phone out of the box, set it aside, and reach for the instructions? NO! You pulled the phone out, turned it on, and started trying to figure it out on your own.  Then when you had a problem with it, did you pull out those dusty instructions to find the answer? NO! You jumped on Google or YouTube to see if someone else had figured it out on their own. We never take the time to just read through instructions, which we KNOW have the answers... instead we take a few clues and try to piece everything together.  We often do this when listening to God.  Instead of waiting for the answer to something, which we KNOW He'll give us, we decide to try and piece clues together and just figure it out on our own.
