Houston MT, Update #2
Dear Houston MT Missionaries:
We seem to be having on-and-off email issues at Ridgecrest. Below, please find the email that Nate has been trying to send you for the past few hours. The only part that is missing is the information about the Boone house. Because of privacy issues, we don't want to publish directions to their house or their address or their phone number. I'm sure the Boones would prefer this over a bunch of strangers showing up for supper one evening.
Please email Nate or Julie for more Boone information.
Julie
Team,
I’ve attached a photo tour of the Houston MT (photos below). You’ll see the front of the Mosque, the Buddhist temple, a possible apartment complex ministry site, the kitchen at the Faith Center and bedrooms at the Faith Center. I hope this gives you some idea of where we are going!
Scheduling...
We will leave at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7. You can arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. to load the bus. This will help us get to Houston by the evening hours so we can shower at Houston’s First on the way to the Faith Center. Please pack a carry-on bag with needed shower items.
Apartment Ministry...
I’ll send you an additional email with assignments to have ready for Sunday night’s training.
Training this Sunday...
Training is at the Boone house. We will start at 6:30 p.m. and be done at 8 p.m. Please arrive between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. so we can start right away. Weather permitting, please wear clothes similar to what you will wear for the apartment ministry while in Houston.
Prayer...
Please pray for the students and sponsors going on this trip. Pray for safety, spiritual growth and preparation. Pray for those who we will minister to in Houston. Pray for our bus drivers, their families and safety for all.
Check the blog at rbcparents.blogspot.com.

10 Things Submission is Not
by Jennifer Smidt
1. Simply or singularly a marriage issue
Submission is God’s design. It is a reflection of the interaction within the Trinity. Whether single or married, submission is a core heart issue revealing one’s dependence upon God. For a wife, it demonstrates her willingness to yield to her husband’s lead in obedience and belief of God’s covenant to her.
2. Degrading
Women have been lured into believing that submission is somehow humiliating. It does not bestow second-class status. It was Christ’s glory to submit to his father’s plan of redemption for his children; it is a wife’s glory to submit to God’s plan of provision and protection for her life
3. Silent
When submission is depicted as voiceless oppression, both men and women lose. God declared that men need help and to leave them without our prayerful input is to deny them help – the very thing God declared they need. Submission uses her voice to speak words of grace and life into her husband’s life.
4. Fearful
A fearful woman will have a very hard time submitting to her husband. A fearful woman isn’t actively trusting God with her life which makes entrusting a man with your future nearly impossible. Submission to Christ frees a woman from fear as she rests in God’s character and provision for her delivered through her husband.
5. Joyless
A joyless wife is an ungrateful wife. Submission says, as Jesus did, “Not my will but yours be done.” There is great joy found in doing the will of God. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, joy bubbles out of a heart that is thankful to God for who he is and what he gives.
6. Stifling
When submissive women are portrayed as stunted or limited in their freedom, they are being lied about. Submission is a safe place of protection where we are able to express our gifts and creativity for the glory of God and benefit of our marriages.
7. Dumb
It is not a dumb thing to do, nor does it make you dumb. There is no “I get to check my brain at the door because he is in charge" thinking as the world often portrays. Submission is the response of an intelligent woman who knows her Bible and believes that God’s design is best.
8. Weak
Submissive women are not mousy. They will not settle for doormat status. The posture of submission is strength willingly placed under the authority of another. Our husbands need our best. Our best is the power that comes from Christ alone as we depend on him to embody Christlikeness to our men.
9. Automatic
A submissive spirit does not kick in the moment you say, “I do”. It is a heart response that all women begin to cultivate as we submit to Christ first. Wives will have their hearts exposed in the area of submission to God. A wife who submits cheerfully and graciously to her husband will always have at her core a heart knelt in submission to Christ.
10. Self-Focused
A truly submissive heart doesn’t need to be concerned with taking care of herself. The submitted heart does not ask, “What’s in it for me?” but rather, “How can I serve God and my husband with my life?”

5 Ways to Make Your Kids Hate Church
by Thomas Weaver. Lead Pastor of Logos Community Church. McAllen, Texas.
5 Ways to Make Your Kids Hate Church
1. Make sure your faith is only something you live out in public
Go to church... at least most of the time. Make sure you agree with what you hear the preacher say, and affirm on the way home what was said especially when it has to do with your kids obeying, but let it stop there. Don’t read your Bible at home. The pastor will say everything you need to hear on Sundays. Don’t engage your children in questions they have concerning Jesus and God. Live like you want to live during the week so that your kids can see that duplicity is ok.
2. Pray only in front of people
The only times you need to pray are when your family is over, holiday meals, when someone is sick, and when you want something. Besides that, don’t bother. Your kids will see you pray when other people are watching, no need to do it with them in private.
3. Focus on your morals
Make sure you insist your kids be honest with you. Let them know it is the right thing for them to do, but then feel free to lie in your own life and disregard the need to tell them and others the truth. Get very angry with your children when they say words that are “naughty” and “bad”, but post, read, watch, and say whatever you want on TV, Facebook, and Twitter. Make sure you focus on being a good person. Be ambiguous about what this means.
4. Give financially as long as it doesn’t impede your needs
Make a big deal out of giving at church. Stress the need to your children the value of tithing, while not giving sacrificially yourself. Allow them to see you spend a ton of money on what you want, while negating your command from Scripture to give sacrificially.
5. Make church community a priority... as long as there is nothing else you want to do
Hey, you are a church going family, right? I mean, that’s what you tell your friends and family anyways. Make sure you attend on Sundays. As long as you didn’t stay up too late Saturday night. Or your family isn’t having a big barbeque. Or the big game isn’t on. Or this week you just don’t feel like it. Or... I mean, you're a church-going family, so what’s the big deal?

DNOW 2011
Dear rbcparents
DNOW is this weekend, April 1-3. Cost is $55. Parent Meeting is Wednesday, March 30, 7:30 p.m. in the Ridgecrest Room
If you haven't registered your student, or if you know students who haven't registered, we urge you to help them make the commitment to participate.
Our mission is for students to know Christ and to make Him known. Yes, we have invited a great speaker to join us. Yes, we are excited about the band. Yes, we are making sure we have enough good eats for the weekend. Yes, we have sweet decorations for the FC.
What we want, though, is for students to come to love Jesus. Whatever we have planned, whatever we do, whomever we have asked to lead, it's all in hopes that something will trigger a student's heart to choose Christ as his/her savior.
Find registration forms in the FC foyer, download here or use our new online registration.

A Story of Coupons
Dear rbcparents:
Sometime last year, I decided coupons could save me a lot of money. My family has used coupons my entire life, so I'm not sure why this was an epiphany for me. Nevertheless, since that fateful day, I don't leave home without them. That's a lie. I do leave home without them. It's irritating. I think they are in my purse, but, alas, they are chillin' on the counter. I digress.
1. coupons.com : my favorite site for food coupons. It also has non-food items.
2. smartsource.com : another good site for food and some non-food coupons.
3. groupon.com : hot-right-now site. Offers certificates for area businesses 50 percent off.
4. halfpriceozarks.com : local site for local 50 percent off certificates.
5. 417mag.com : 417 Magazine offers a daily 50 percent off certificate for local businesses.
6. couponcabin.com : great source for online discounts.

Weather and Services
Dear rbcparents:
If you believe weatherpeople, you probably expect some sort of winter storm to make itself at home in our area the next few days. (-4 degrees with -20 windchill, anyone?) To help alleviate some stress for pre-planners, I want to give you a number. Write this down: 417.887.2317. This number is the main line for Ridgecrest Baptist Church. When services are canceled church-wide (due to, say, a blizzard), a message will be left on this line telling you so. Therefore, if the roads are a little snowy Wednesday, you can call 417.887.2317 and check for cancellations.
Thinking ahead,
Julie

summer | MISSIONS: Freddie Hill, sponsor
Mr. Freddie Hill, above in the blue shirt, is dad to seniors Miss Brooke Hill and Miss Brittany Hill and has been a sponsor on multiple summer MISSIONS trips. Though no official, scientific poll has been taken, folks no doubt would agree that Freddie is an utmost asset. Below, he shares with us how "sponsor" isn't another name for "babysitter" and why parents should consider saying, "yes," to the opportunity.
Q: Outside of the student ministry, have you been involved in other mission trips? If so, please tell me briefly about them. Do you feel missions is a big part of your life?
A: I have not been involved in other mission trips outside the student ministry, but I want to continue to be involved in missions, as I feel it should be a large part of my/our lives.
Q: What influenced your decision to be part of student ministry mission trips?
A: I wanted to experience missions with my daughters.
Q: What doubts, if any, did you have?
A: The volume of work to be done in the amount of time we had to do it, but God was in control, and we always accomplished what we set out to do and more.
Q: Adults, for the most part, participate in student ministry mission trips as sponsors. Sponsors have the responsibility of keeping an eye on students. Because of that, some might think that adults aren’t as involved with the mission aspect of mission trips. How did your experience compare with that mentality?
A: I was very involved from the planning stages to hands-on. Having to keep an eye on students never hindered my participation.
A: I was very involved from the planning stages to hands-on. Having to keep an eye on students never hindered my participation.
Q: What are some memories you have of the trips? What did you enjoy?
A: Seeing the students working hard, doing a good job, and reaching out to others. Getting to know the students and seeing them grow spiritually.
A: Seeing the students working hard, doing a good job, and reaching out to others. Getting to know the students and seeing them grow spiritually.
Q: From your experience, why would other parents want to serve as sponsors during student ministry trips?
A: Because whatever you might think is more important will quickly become unimportant when you spend time with the students and watch them serving others with joy and the desire to please God.
