summer | MISSIONS: Freddie Hill, sponsor

Mr. Freddie Hill, above in the blue shirt, is dad to seniors Miss Brooke Hill and Miss Brittany Hill and has been a sponsor on multiple summer MISSIONS trips. Though no official, scientific poll has been taken, folks no doubt would agree that Freddie is an utmost asset. Below, he shares with us how "sponsor" isn't another name for "babysitter" and why parents should consider saying, "yes," to the opportunity.

Q: Outside of the student ministry, have you been involved in other mission trips? If so, please tell me briefly about them. Do you feel missions is a big part of your life?
A: I have not been involved in other mission trips outside the student ministry, but I want to continue to be involved in missions, as I feel it should be a large part of my/our lives.

Q: What influenced your decision to be part of student ministry mission trips?
A: I wanted to experience missions with my daughters.

Q: What doubts, if any, did you have?
A: The volume of work to be done in the amount of time we had to do it, but God was in control, and we always accomplished what we set out to do and more.

Q: Adults, for the most part, participate in student ministry mission trips as sponsors. Sponsors have the responsibility of keeping an eye on students. Because of that, some might think that adults aren’t as involved with the mission aspect of mission trips. How did your experience compare with that mentality?
A: I was very involved from the planning stages to hands-on. Having to keep an eye on students never hindered my participation.

Q: What are some memories you have of the trips? What did you enjoy?
A: Seeing the students working hard, doing a good job, and reaching out to others. Getting to know the students and seeing them grow spiritually.

Q: From your experience, why would other parents want to serve as sponsors during student ministry trips?
A: Because whatever you might think is more important will quickly become unimportant when you spend time with the students and watch them serving others with joy and the desire to please God.
